The purpose of Pointing Upward is to share brief heartfelt skits regarding different aspects of the gospel.
Sometimes its hard to understand just how easy God made His plan of salvation. So many believe that in order go to heaven is by working our way, just by being a good person. In other words, the only way some feel they can get to heave is Jesus + something, not just Jesus and accepting that on faith.
We live in a microwave society - everything has to be done quickly so we can do more and more things with our time. That doesn't stop at the door of the church sometimes. A pastor can give a fabulous sermon but when it's spoken too fast sometime there's not enough time built into the sermon for people to absorb what was being said
I can remember hearing sermons or even someone just talking about God and His plan of salvation for us. They'd use "church-ie" words or sayings and I didn't always understand what they were actually saying. And if I would stop to think about what it is they were saying, by the time I'd refocus on their message I lost more of the concept that he/she was trying to explain.
We live in such a fast-talking world. Everyone seems to want to try and squeeze as much information into a smaller amount of time that we don't give people time to digest what's being said.
As far as the skits - some will be a bit comical more serious than others. Each will address Christian concepts that may seem hard to understand. In one area we'll take some biblical concepts and simplify them - not dummy them down but present them in such a way that may be easier to understand. At least that is my hope - that is my prayer - so that anyone that sees them will know the simple truth that God loves them, wants them to live forever with Him in Heaven, and that they must simply accept His gift of salvation as just that - as a free gift. Many people know this but they forget to actually reach out and ask for it. Much like a birthday present: someone paid for it and wants to give to you. But until you reach out and grab it, it isn't yours yet. So take hold of God's gift, ask Him into you heart, ask Him to forgive you, ask Him to be your Saviour!
